Bourbon

  • Henry McKenna Single Barrel 10 Year Bottled-in-Bond

An incredibly sweet bourbon for sipping. I find it to be better than most others at the same price point.

  • Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond

A good bourbon, but not one I have interest in buying again.

  • Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof

  • Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

A wonderful oak and vanilla forward bourbon for a decent price. Definitely one that can be used for sipping or mixing into a “top-shelf” cocktail.

  • Woodford Reserve

One of the best bourbons I know for cocktails. Not terribly interesting to drink neat, but a great foundation for building on top of.

  • Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style

A good bourbon that works great in a “top-shelf” cocktail. Not one of my favorite sipping bourbons.

  • Four Roses Single Barrel

An all-time favorite of mine. Amazing in a cocktail, and great neat as well.

  • Four Roses Small Batch Select

Similar to the single barrel, but the great flavors are even more intense. One of my favorite pours.

  • Stagg

The peak of bourbon for me. Amazing flavor and evolution. Hard to justify the high price, but I haven’t found something more reasonable to replace it with.

  • Weller Full Proof

Another one of my favorite pours. The peak of wheated bourbons for me. Similarly difficult to justify the price tag, but I have yet to find an alternative.

  • Weller Antique 107

A great wheated bourbon and generally goes for much lower than the full proof.

  • Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel Bottled-in-Bond

At one point, one of my favorite bourbons. Now I find it to not be worth the price. I would gladly go for a Weller Antique 107 for the price.

  • Blanton's Single Barrel

A good bourbon, but the price is absurd.

  • Blanton's Straight From The Barrel

Can’t wait to try this one

  • Eagle Rare

One of my least favorite bourbons in this collection. I find it to be quite harsh for the relatively low proof point, and I’m not crazy about the flavors.

  • Buffalo Trace

Not incredibly interesting, but great for the price.

  • Garrison Brothers Balmorhea

One of my favorite sipping bourbons. It’s a very unique option for Texas with deep oak and brown sugar/molasses notes.

  • Garrison Brothers Small Batch

Oak, tobacco, leather, etc. I love it, and it goes in my favorite cocktail, but not for everyone.

  • Bulleit Barrel Strength

Not something I have a lot to say about. It’s good, but not something I find myself reaching for.

  • Baker's 7

Good, but not for the price. I far prefer Four Roses Small Batch Select. at the price point and the flavor profile.

  • Barrell Bourbon Private Release (K&L Store Pick)

  • Barrell Vantage

A decent bourbon, but not for the price tag. I would not buy again.

  • Frey Ranch Single Barrel Barrel Strength (K&L Store Pick)

Grassy - not sure how I feel about that

  • Old Elk Four Grain

  • Calumet 16

Rye

  • Balcones Texas Rye

As you may have guessed, I’m not a huge fan of ryes. However, the oak from this Texas balances out the rye spices for me, making something unique that I enjoy.

  • Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye

    My new favorite rye

American Whisky

  • Barrell Dovetail

A good wine-finished whisky. Better than most wine finished whiskies I’ve had, but not something I would seek out again.

  • Barrell Seagrass

An amazing finished rye with incredible fruit notes. Great as an after-dinner pour (like a dessert wine)

  • Balcones 1 Texas Single Malt

A fantastic single malt with powerful oak notes that I enjoy. One of my favorite and unique pours.

  • Westward Single Malt Pinot Noir Cask

The best wine-finished whisky I’ve had.

  • Copper Fox Single Malt

Was not great for my palate.

Scotch

  • Lagavulin 16

A good peaty scotch that is far less harsh than the other 10y counterparts on the list.

  • Laphroaig 10

The scotch that got me into scotches. A bit harsh, but I still find it to be an enjoyable drinking experience.

  • Ardbeg 10

Even harsher than the Laphroaig, and not one of my favorite pours.

  • Macallan 12

A nice scotch that’s much more on the sweeter side. Not terrible interesting, but very approachable.

  • Glenlivet 15

Sweet and oak forward. One of my favorite non-Islay scotches to sip on.

Irish Whisky

  • Redbreast 12

As might be obvious, I don’t particularly care for Irish whiskies, but this one is good, and can be found at a reasonable price.
